These applications let you organize and catalog collections of books, both virtual (e-books) and books in the classic paper format. They are great for book libraries of any size. Furthermore, all the programs from this set are free.
These programs can help you with what you're intending to do:
GCStar is a cataloging/collection management application. It is an open-source project that currently works on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X platforms. GCStar allows you to manage your collections of books, movies, series episodes, and many others. The input of data is carried out very easily. You can add movies by simply typing their names.
Alfa Ebooks Manager provides you with all the tools you need to organize, catalog, and manage your e-library. This XML-based e-library manager makes adding, organizing, viewing, reading, searching, and editing your e-books an easy and rewarding task.
Book Tracker is an organizer program for the book collector or manager of a small library. Book Tracker was designed to be simple to use, yet feature rich. Many of the features can be implemented with a single click or hot key and most of the information is presented on the main screen.
Book2Shelf is a free e-book organizer and cataloging tool for FictionBook documents (FB2), with some conversion capabilities. It incorporates other free tools related to this XML-based e-book format, thus offering you a convenient reader (based on Haali Reader) and the possibility of encoding TXT files into FictionBook using Any 2 FB2.
